How to care for your new upcycled wooden furniture
The wood we use here at Madera Up has already had a life before we upcycle it into something new. It’s high quality wood that doesn’t need a fancy care routine. To keep your furniture looking its best, follow these simple steps.

-
Keep it Clean
We finish all our furniture with tung oil. Tung oil has its origins in China and has been used for thousands of years. It is a non-toxic vegan food safe option that offers the perfect waterproof finish. To clean your furniture, do not use harsh or all-purpose cleaners. A small amount of water and soap, or very mild dish detergent is all you need. Afterwards, rinse with a damp cloth containing only water and then wipe dry with a soft dry cloth.

2. Avoid Heat Damage
Don’t place hot food or drink directly on wooden surfaces. Always use coasters and placemats, along with potholders to protect your wood from spills and those dreaded ring marks.

3. Avoid Environmental Damage
Overtime, sunlight and heat can damage and fade wooden furniture. Be mindful of where you place your furniture and keep it away from uncovered windows, vents and fireplaces.

4. Remove Stains
Always clean up a stain as quickly as possible. The longer it sits, the harder it will be to remove. Different stains need different solutions:
-
For white rings from wet glasses, apply an equal parts combination of white toothpaste and baking soda to the stain until the ring is no longer visible. Wipe down the area and then buff with a dry cloth.
-
For water damage dark spots, try blotting the stain with a vinegar-soaked cloth.
-
For crayon marks, try applying mayonnaise. Let it sit for a couple of minutes before rubbing clean with a damp cloth and buffing with a dry cloth.
